Study Notes on the Family Download Word Document One of the greatest battles that we face in American culture is the battle for the traditional family. The materialism of the post-World War II generation has influenced our civilization toward an emphasis on stuff rather than family. This attitude has driven a diamond studded golden wedge between many married couples. The rock-and-roll and free love philosophy of the '60s gave us the sexual revolution which has loosened the bonds of husband and wife relationships by initiating the "live and let love", attitude of the '70s. The moral cavalierity of the '70s and '80s made divorce a common practice and adultery the in thing. The '90s led us through the generation “X” which was reputedly a lost generation. This generation was lost because it had no moral compass for direction. The journey of the last 50 years has brought our nation to the lowest moral tide of its history. We have listened to the feminist and today only pockets of biblical family structure remain. Men no longer understand how to lead or why they should. They have abdicated that responsibility to women because they do not want to be accused of being chauvinistic. Overall, women no longer understand what it means to be a homemaker and mother. They have abdicated their responsibility to professional housecleaners and day-care centers in order to fulfill the role that men have given over to them. Among the worst tragedies of our day is the progressive death of the family as it has been traditionally known. Marital infidelity, exaltation of sexual sin, homosexuality, abortion, women’s liberation, delinquency, and the sexual revolution in general have all contributed to the family’s demise. Each one is a strand in the cord that is rapidly strangling marriage and the family. click for the rest of the article |
